NAMI WALKS was held Saturday, May 6, 2017, at William Land Park in Sacramento. This was the 11th year NAMI Solano County has participated in this event that combats stigma, raises funds, and promotes awareness of mental illness.
The day couldn’t have been better, the sun was shining down on over 2,000 individuals of all ages that enjoyed the walk whether they did 1K, 3K, the full 5K, or preferred to visit the various booths. The informational materials at the booths went fast as people were gathering flyers, and brochures to find help for themselves as well as their loved ones. The stage was buzzing with speakers, music, and various other entertainment.
Some stayed after the walk to picnic and enjoy the camaraderie of family and friends, as well as wait to see if their lucky number was picked from the raffle. Two of the prize winners were from the 200 tickets sold by NAMI Solano County members.
The fund raising recently ended, and we are anxiously awaiting the grand total of what NAMI Solano County raised from their 12 teams. The Board will be deciding where the funds can best be used to support programs and events on mental health in our county. For those that supported and/or participated in the Walk, we thank you from the top of our brains to the bottom of our hearts.
